Podmas December 1st: The Different jobs I've had over the years.
Hi guys, welcome back I hope you guys have had a great thanksgiving break whether you celebrate it or not. Ours was great; we had a burger night with the family at our house instead of doing turkey because well, we're not turkey ppl, and it turned out fun.
Speaking of fun this December 2019, I'll be uploading a new episode every day. I hope to share some great stories of Muslim women and the work they do but also touch on some other topics and even share more about myself with you guys.
Today's episode about the latter, I'll be sharing all about the jobs I've had over the years. Now y'all these are not fabulous jobs and careers. I'm talking about pocket change like a teenager and living money that OSAP (student loans) didn't cover I was blessed to live at home during college, but my job included my spending money.
my very first job was babysitting, and for those of you who know me personally or have read online that I'm the oldest of 7 kids, your like duh fousia, of course, your first job was babysitting.
but it wasn't my sibling's cause come on a job equals pay, and hoyoo wasn't paying me to babysit my siblings.
One day I was sitting around bored and broke and figured someone in our building could use help with babysitting. Now I picked my building because:
a. safety, I knew my parents and siblings where close
b. I didn't want to have to travel during school nights to babysit
So with the help of my sister, who was always a better writer, we made an ad I don't remember exactly the wording we used. Still, it was something like a responsible teenager looking to babysit, etc." for a reference call, my mom." and that's the part that made her give me a call.
after that, I had a series of call center jobs, mostly conducting
Ipsos-Reid surveys. The two polls that stood out the most because of difficulty of the topic and hence how hard it was to get people to take them where
1. OnStar which took 45min to 1hr to complete, only a few people on the floor could complete a poll, and unfortunately, I was one of them, so I would get assigned to it for a month straight
2. the absolute worst survey was a pharmaceutical company that was selling an Erectile dysfunction medication. The in keeping up with the new saying men are trash some of the older men who to this survey were just the worst people, and they would make terrible jokes, and make puns from the questions it was just awful. I remember it was so bad I would stand up from my desk and make eye contact with the quality control manager so I could end the call. As bad as it could sometimes be, I learned a lot about market research before social media took off. That job got lasted all of college.
The next series of jobs are work from home jobs I did after I got married and had kids straight out of college.
Virtual Assitant for MuslimMatters.org, for about 4-5 years, I was handling the inbox and screening the guest posts for MM. I got to interact with Muslims from around the world and read many excellent guest posts and bad ones before they went off for editorial approval.
I also worked as a virtual Assitant for a Muslim publication company for a few months. I was in charge of helping to promote a new book.
If your a stay at home mom or need to work from home Virtual Assitant jobs are great. You can set your hours and what you will charge and the specific tasks that you can do.
Pharmacy Technician Trainee, in some states, you can work as a tech trainee while you study for your board test. I worked in a rehabilitation hospital for three days a week for a year.
Some of the tasks I worked on where filling medDispence, putting together IV kits, ordering/stocking/returning inventory, Cleaning the pharmacy, checking recall stats daily, etc.
those are all the jobs I can remember, Although I consider podcasting a job because of all the work that goes into it currently it's not one that comes with a paycheck.
I would love to hear about all the jobs you guys have had over the years, shoot me an email at naptimeissacred@gmail.com or DM on Instagram.
That's it for today's episode, come back tomorrow for another.
